Joseph Gabriel Flores

Joseph “Gabe” Gabriel Flores passed away on Tuesday March 7th, 2017 at his home in Santee, CA. Gabe was born in 1937 in Verdi, Nevada to Carmen Marin Flores and Maximiliano P. Flores. He was the elder brother of Ezekiel “Robert” Flores. He grew up in Nevada and had a passion for baseball, football and music. He was a talented athlete and a skilled musician, performing in Mariachi bands throughout his young adulthood. Gabe was a patriot and served as a corporal in the United States Armed Forces where he boxed, played baseball and traveled the world. Gabe married his wife, Lucy (Mederios) Flores in 1958. Together they raised two beautiful children and created a wonderful family legacy. Gabe was a talented banker for 45 years excelling from the mailroom to President of the bank in various institutions from Nevada to Idaho and eventually California. He was also a talented wood worker, building beautiful custom furniture; many of the pieces still reside in the homes of friends and family today. In his later years Gabe also took up cooking, creating new recipes and lovingly testing them upon his family at Sunday dinners. Gabe and Lucy were married 58 years upon his passing. He leaves behind a wonderful family that loved and cherished him very much; wife, Lucy Flores, son, Gregory Anthony Flores, his daughter in law, Joanne Marie Flores, and his daughter, Lorraine Ann Flores. He also leaves 7 grandchildren and their significant others; Michelle Marie Gonzales and husband Alex Paul Gonzales II, Anthony Gabriel Flores and wife Sarina Flores, Daniel Calvin Flores and fiancé Judith Crystal Hernandez, Steven Gabriel Koko and wife Jacqueline Marie Koko, Angelica Eusebia Koko and significant other Jose Antonio Perez, Nicole Michelle Thomas and Jacob Anthony Thomas. His legacy continues with 6 great grandchildren, Gabriel Allan Koko, Alex Paul Gonzales III, Mia Sarina Flores, Isabelle Marie Gonzales, Layla Lucy Flores and Camila Valentina Flores.

A rosary vigil will be held for Gabe on Tuesday March 14th at 7:00pm (visitation starting at 6:00pm) at the El Cajon Mortuary; 684 South Mollison, El Cajon CA 92020. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday March 15th 2017, 12:00pm at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church; 2766 Navajo Road El Cajon, CA 92020. Gabe will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery; 4470 Hilltop Dr., San Diego, CA 92102 with reception to follow at the Greg Flores Family home.
