December 16, 1942- April 30, 2021
Our precious mother, Judith Ann Lein, entered the world on December 16, 1942. Born in San Diego to C.W. Gustafson and his wife, Julia Gustafson. Judy would attend Crawford High School, where she would meet her soon to be husband, Robert Lein. Their teenage years rapidly transcended to young adulthood as Judy and Bob would welcome their first born, Roy, into the world in February of 1960. Together the young couple adapted quickly and began a marriage and lifelong partnership of hard work, love and saving.
In August of 1963, their first daughter, Barbara would arrive. At the tender age of twenty-one, Judy was a loving mother of two. Mom was a gentle and kindhearted young woman with a work ethic and tenaciousness which would match her young husband’s. The couple would save as able, while meeting the expenses of a growing family. Challenging times emerged with their daughter, Barbara’s health issues. Our mom faced these issues with maturity, resolve, unconditional love, character traits of fortitude, and selflessness. She emerged with strength at this critical period for her young family. These very traits became her foundational components and the bedrock that would support her hardworking husband in their mutually tenacious quest to seek out their corner of the American dream.
In December of 1970, Julie Marie, their second daughter and final child, was born. The earlier challenges re-emerged. Again, our Mom and Dad team would rise to this occasion. Once again, they worked together to push through and by the grace of God, overcame.
In 1978 Mom and Dad built their dream home in Dehesa Valley. It became Mom’s happy place up to the last moments of her earthly journey. Mom’s passions were gardening and baking. Her yard and deck were her favorite spots to enjoy family, friends and good food! She found many hours of peace and fulfillment while working in the yard. Mom loved to pull weeds and bake pies!
Mom taught us to love by example. She was reliable, selfless and giving. We could always lean upon and count on our mom to be there for us all. Our loving mom became a proud and doting grandmother when Annie Lein Brainard was born to Barbara and Dale in October of 1996. Madison Lein Brainard followed in 1998. Judy had a new twinkle in her eye. She nurtured and often cared for her precious granddaughters, whom she cherished and loved.
Judy lived a life of quiet and relative obscurity. But within our family unit, she was our Matriarch and selfless hero, who provided strength and encouragement whenever called upon. Like the sun rising from the east, Mom was always there to rise to any occasion, whether celebratory or conciliatory. Whatever duty Mom was called for, she answered and never disappointed or fell short; she always exceeded our expectations with whatever we needed and a lot more love.
Our family is most comforted in this time of loss with the fact that Mom answered the upward call of Christ Jesus when she publicly accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior several years ago! Upon her passing, we knew the moment Mom became absent from her body, she became present with the Lord.
Judy is survived by her husband Robert, son Roy, daughters Barbara and Julie as well as her loving son in law, Dale, granddaughters Annie and Madison, sister Jean Stahley, nephews Greg and Christopher Stahley, Tyrone Northcutt and Niece Ginger Stacey.
