Mary passed away on December 11th after a long battle with dementia and complications from a recent fall. Born on a farm in Blue Rapids, Kansas just in time for the Great Depression, she was one of the many Americans who actually wore flour sack and sugar sack dresses. When she came of age she married and in 1956 she moved to San Diego where she raised two boys; J. Michael and Tavis Ross. She worked for the San Diego City Schools custodial department, which she retired from after 35 years of service. After a divorce from her first husband she met the love of her life Robert J. Higgins and together they spent many happy years traveling, playing cards and billiards, and spending time with their friends and family of which they had many. She is preceded in death by her son Tavis Ross and husband Robert J. Higgins. She is survived by her son J. Michael Ross and daughter in law Rhona Gold, along with 4 grandchildren; Ian Ross, Cassie Salinas, Cody Ross and Jesse Ross, and 9 great grandchildren; Julain, Layla, Desmond, Naomi, Miles, Teddy, Tavis, Ruby, and her namesake Mary .

Mary was so special to me. She was the most gracious person. As my mother-in-law for many years, I used to go to her home for dinners and other occasions and she was so welcoming, sweet, kind and loving. She had a special nature - she was always so positive, even when times were not. I enjoyed seeing her more often after I moved to California. One thing I am so thankful for is that my grandchildren got to know her - their great grandmother. I think that this relationship is so very special and having the chance to have known her and remember her is just so important and wonderful for all of them. I am going to miss Mary and her unique and special personality. With all my everlasting love - Penny Andros

I have fond memories of the joy she took at having a grandchild nearby. She did not waste the opportunity, caring for him on a regular basis. His life is no doubt richer for it. That's the most we can ask. God speed Mary.
