Robert Millard Tweed was born to Bonnie Jeanne and Robert Frank Tweed, and was a proud fifth generation San Diegan. He graduated from St. Augustine High School where he made many lifelong and treasured friends, and was active in the Saints Alumni Association.
In 1978, Rob and his future wife Kerri were set up by a mutual friend —he married “the best Benson girl” on March 26, 1983. He was Kerri’s best friend and was always thinking of ways to surprise her in thoughtful and romantic ways. Together they built a loving home in El Cajon and raised two sons Nicholas and Matthew. Rob was a caring father, a dedicated Little League coach and “Team Mom” and he enjoyed taking his boys on fun outings like Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo. Family was so important to Rob. He was blessed to be a part of Nicholas and Natalie’s wedding last summer becoming a father-in-law to Natalie and grandpa to Hayden; and proud to become a grandpa to Matthew’s son, Liam in 2021.
Rob started working at his father’s service station during high school, worked a few years at a local movie theater before making his career in the transportation logistics business. His co-workers described him as “genuine”, “a real good guy” and his clients loved and trusted him. Rob was always quick with a joke, a silly face or a big smile—he was well-known for his unique sense of humor. He loved golf, tennis and creating events and get-togethers, including an annual golf tournament that he ran for many years. He enjoyed reading books and especially loved reading to children, whether to entertain his nieces or nephews or a classroom full of kids on St Patrick’s Day. Rob enjoyed the fellowship of Tuesday Night Men’s Bible Study serving as co-lead and making many special friendships. He loved music and was a natural in promoting his son Matthew’s band.
Rob was wonderfully generous and specialized in gestures of kindness, from hand-written notes to his trademark gift of See’s suckers. He was very sentimental, creating and keeping family traditions and always encouraged others to make memories with their friends and loved ones. With his big heart, Rob was loved by all who knew him and many said he was the kindest person they had ever met. His loss will be deeply felt by his family and he will be forever missed.
Rob went to be with the Lord on January 16, 2023. He was 70 years old. He is survived by his wife Kerri, sons Nicholas (Natalie) and Matthew, grandsons Hayden and Liam, siblings Tim (Lisa) and Bonnie Laurie, aunt Mary Elizabeth, many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Kathleen, nephew Kyle and brother-in-law Ken.
