

Stella Irene Verrill Pierce Clarke 1944 - 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Stella Irene Verrill Pierce Clarke, who was a cherished Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Daughter, Sister-in-law, Aunt and Friend whose warmth, kindness, and generosity touched the lives of all who knew her. She passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 10th, 2026 at her home in El Cajon, CA.
Born on May 31, 1944 in Westbrook, Maine to the late Everett M. and Phyllis L (Sherman) Verrill of White Rock, Maine. and survived by her husband Arthur (Ted) Clarke, her Son Charles Pierce and his Wife Dianne of El Cajon, CA, Bonus Sons Scott and Chi Doucette, Darren and Jean Doucette, Keith and Rita Doucette, Lee Doucette, Joe Doucette, Bonus daughter Anna & Dan Sobczak, Teresa and ex-husband Richard Garnham, Beverly and David Wooltorton. Grandchildren Michael, Damien, Emily, William, Steven, Jade, Daniel and Charlie. Great Grandchildren Kinley, Lily, Owen and Emett and close friends Barbara, Elaine, Cheryl and Marie and many nieces and nephews. Stella was preceded by her husband William S Pierce, son Michael S. Pierce, ex-husband Louis Doucette and brothers Merton and William Verrill.
Stella graduated from Gorham High School in 1962. She was a charter member of the Windham Assembly of Rainbow Girls, Girl Scouts of America, earning the Curve Bar the highest award given; 4-H, Majorette in the Windham-Gorham Town Band and the Gorham HS band, White Rock Grange, White Rock Church and Youth Group, Girl Scout Leader, Cub Scout Den Mother, Gorham Snow Goers, Windham Lioness, and along with her late husband Bill Pierce sponsored the Windham Little Leage Team the Seals. Past member of the Westbrook & Portland Order of the Eagles and the American Legion in Westbrook, Maine.
Stella was always involved in caring for family and friends, she was always there to help anyone in need. She was known for her caring and loving demeanor and was the primary care giver for her parents Everett and Phyllis Verrill, her sister-in-law Margaret Davidson and friend Sally Turgeon. Whenever you needed help you knew you could count on Stella to be there.
In Stella’s last days she was surrounded by her Husband Ted Clarke, Son Charles Pierce, Daughter-in-Law’s Dianne Pierce and Cindy McLaren, Grandson William Pierce, Granddaughter Emily Pierce and Niece Vicki Joy-Powell.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your local Hospice Organization whose support was so important during Stella’s final days.
Stella will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her legacy of love, compassion, and strength will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
