

Thomas Francis Oles Jr. was born in Yonkers, New York, to his loving parents, Thomas and Helen Oles. Growing up in a lively household, he was the second oldest of eight siblings: Georgie, Eddy, Bobby, Jerry, Dee, Joan, Doris, and Eileen. This close-knit family environment instilled in him the values of loyalty, camaraderie, and compassion from an early age.
In 1949, Thomas met his beloved wife, Therese. Their connection was immediate, and they quickly fell in love. The couple married and enjoyed a beautiful partnership that lasted for an impressive 73 years. Together, they raised four children: Julianne, Thomas III, Danny (deceased at birth), Wayne, and Elena, instilling in them the same values they cherished throughout their lives.
Additions to the family include, Julie’s husband, Wayne Langevin and their daughter, Myra and her husband Mike Green. Wayne’s wife Janet (deceased) and their daughter, Sonrisa, and her two children, Kalia and Jetty. Elena and her husband, John Gefrom, and their two children Kurtis and Kara
Thomas dedicated 23 years of his life to serving his country, first in the Navy and later in the Air Force. His military career included notable experience in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. While stationed in Vietnam, he took on the role of Santa Claus for an orphanage located in a war zone, a testament to his generous and brave spirit. Traveling in a convoy protected by two Marines, he delivered gifts and joy to children during the holiday season, creating lasting memories amidst the chaos of war. Additionally, his skills came into play as he helped deliver two babies during his time in Vietnam. Known for his loud and clear voice, Thomas often served as a spokesperson for the captains, effectively communicating orders and instructions, earning him respect among his peers.
Faith played a central role in Thomas's life. He taught religious classes and served as an Usher at his church for 45 years, reaffirming his commitment to his beliefs and community. Together, he and Therese sponsored and became godparents to numerous children in the family and church, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of many.
In addition to his service and faith, Thomas displayed a remarkable creativity. He manufactured, with his nephew Chuck Wilson "The Fantasy Horse," a life-size rocking horse that became a beloved attraction at community events. Children delighted in riding the horse and having their pictures taken, creating cherished memories. This tradition later became an integral part of his family's birthday and family reunion celebrations.
Thomas Francis Oles Jr. passed away on February 18, 2025, in San Diego, California. His warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family, faith, and community will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will continue to inspire those who follow in his footsteps.
