

Carrol Dean “Pete” Harris, 89, resident of Parkers Chapel, formerly of Hot Springs, died peacefully at John R. Williamson Life Touch Hospice surrounded by his family on Wednesday, May 4, 2016. He was born February 5, 1927, in Webb City, Arkansas, to Eugene and Alice Harris.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Millie Jo Harris, of Parkers Chapel; son, Jim Harris (Debbie) of Redfield; daughter, Sandy Gross (John) of Parkers Chapel; four grandchildren, Brian Gross and Kristi Lowery (Ross) of Parkers Chapel, Brett Harris (Susan) of White Hall, and Laura Cummings (Jeff) of Pine Bluff; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Susie Koberlein of Maumelle; a host of nieces and nephews; and his faithful canine companion, Oreo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Fred and Joe Ben; two granddaughters, Carrie Elizabeth Harris and Corrie Gross Bechtelheimer.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged. He retired as a supervisor at Union Carbide in Hot Springs. He was a Mason of the Englewood Lodge in Indianapolis, IN; long time member of Hot Springs Elk Lodge, where he served as the exalted ruler; and member of the El Dorado American Legion. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and Razorback fan.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to #teamcorrie Cancer Foundation, 401 Parker Drive, El Dorado, or HOPE Landing, PO Box 10215, El Dorado.
The family will be at 401 Parker Drive.
Visitation will be at Young’s Funeral Directors on Thursday, from 6:00-8.00 p.m.
A graveside service will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Old Parkers Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
