Gary Stephen Sneed, Sr., age 68, of Hampton, Arkansas, entered into the arms of his Savior on August 21, 2025. Born January 10, 1957, in El Dorado, Gary was raised in Smackover and spent nearly his entire life in South Arkansas, apart from a short time in Little Rock after marrying the love of his life, Irma Robbins. Their 47 years together were a testimony of faith, love, and devotion—an example of God’s design for marriage.
From a young age, Gary had a heart for helping others. For 47 years, he faithfully served as a registered nurse, working in many fields and touching countless lives with compassion and steady hands. Even after stepping back from full-time nursing, Gary wasn’t finished ministering to others. The Lord called him into pastoral ministry, and he answered without hesitation. For the past decade, as pastor of Hampton United Methodist Church, he shared the hope of Christ, preached the Word with conviction, and loved his congregation deeply. His ministry extended far beyond the pulpit, as he walked beside his church family through joys and sorrows alike.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, George and Doris Sneed; his in-laws, Dale and Maudine Robbins; and his precious infant grandson, Collier Sneed.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Irma, who was not only his partner in life but also in faith and ministry. He is survived by his two sons: Gary Stephen, Jr. (Amy) of Elliott, AR, and Jason (Courtney) of El Dorado, AR. Of all the roles Gary held in his life, none brought him greater joy than being “P.A.” to his grandchildren—Garrett and Erin Sneed, Owen Bethea, and Berklee and Bristol Sneed. They adored him with all the boundless imagination and affection that only children can give, and he cherished every moment with them. He also leaves behind his brothers, Daniel (Joanne) and David (Beth), along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins who were very close to his heart.
Gary’s life was marked by service, love, and unwavering faith. Whether he was caring for patients, preaching the Gospel, or playing with his grandchildren, he reflected Christ’s light in all he did. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched and in the family who carries his love and faith forward.
