

She was retired from First National Bank, where she worked as a loan officer, and she was also a charter member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Odie Cates; daughter, Melva Joyce Cates; sister, Charlene Deboard Denton; and step-son, Marlon Thompson.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 32 years, Everett Alvin Thompson; children, Jimmy Michael “Buddy” Cates (Diane), Kay Ruddell (Bennie), Janelle Morrison (Randy); nine grandchildren, Chris Ruddell, Stephen Ruddell (Tina), Cinnamon Cates Dizon (Scott), Ginger Cates Wilder (Michael), Scott Morrison (Brandy), Robert Everett Morrison (Samantha), James Michael Morrison, Cody Thompson (Katie), Janette Thompson Guillot (Josh); twenty-two great grandchildren, Odie, Morgan, Blake, and Haley Ruddell, Chelsea Maddox, Sophia, Kieran, and Celia Dizon, Daly, Ashton, McKenzie Wilder, Ethan, Ruby and Gracie Tovar, Emma Kate and Benjamin Wyatt Morrison, Kennedy and Coleman Thompson, Mindy Marie Bernard, Oakley and Beaux and Mason Tyler “Mae Mae” Guillot,.
A celebration of life service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at Immanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Meeks and Kay Ruddell officiating. Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Park under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the church.
