Construction was completed on Jimmy Russell Greer’s new home in heaven on Sunday, June 23, 2013, and he joyfully moved in. All our prayers were answered! The Lord healed his body of all the rigors of cancer and he will suffer no more.
Jimmy was born Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1937 to James Ona and Bertie Fowler Greer in West Monroe, LA. He grew up in West Monroe and worked there until 1985 when he moved to El Dorado, AR to work in the oil field. He came to love the oilfield, the work, and the people that he worked with. He was appreciated for his work ethics, his mechanical talents, for being opinionated, for his spit-fire temper, and his sense of humor. “If you dish it out, be willing to take it” was his motto. Jimmy was his own man.
He showed his love for the Lord through his involvement with Union Baptist Church. UBC was dear to his heart. He loved his family and friends fiercely. Deer hunting, fishing, and gardening with “The Waller Boys” were his passions. Jimmy was a well -rounded man.
Preceding him in death are his parents, a grandson, Joseph Eppinette, one brother, Ona Gene Greer, and one sister, Sue Greer Shaw.
Left to cherish his memory with love, laughter, and tears are his wife, Jo Anne; children, Rhonda & Ricky Blakely, Jeff & Michelle Greer, Anita & Johnny Eppinette, David Greer, and Jamie Hudnall, all of West Monroe, LA, Amy & Jim Tucker, and Julie & Anthony Geist of El Dorado. The Lord richly blessed Jimmy with 21 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 1 great- great granddaughter. One sister, and brother in law, Mona & Richard Mehl of Hutchinson, KS, brothers in law and sisters in law, Vince Breaux of Lafayette, LA, Evelyn & Jack Pool of Gilmer, TX, Connie LeDoux of Many, LA, Tun & Rocky Gist of Jennings, LA, and a host of nieces and nephews who thought their bald –headed Uncle Jimmy was quite a cool guy. Jimmy was a man rich with family.
