John Wood

John was born on April 1, 1930 in El Dorado, AR to J.M. Wood and Artie Mae Sturdivant Wood.

He joined the Navy and served in WWII in the South Pacific. After serving his time in the Navy, he met and married Bobbie Joan Crook on January 29, 1955. They were married over 71 years.

John worked at Great Lakes Chemical, as a supervisor in the E&I Dept until retirement in 1995.

After retirement he fished at Lake Chicot, farmed and square danced. He became a square dance caller and very much enjoyed the fun and fellowship it provided.

John was preceded in death by his parents and all six of his brothers, Lloyd, Curtis, Travis, Truman, Langford and Stanley.

John is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 71 years, Bobbie Joan Wood; his son, Robby (Lynn) of St. Francisville, LA; his son, Randy (Lena) of El Dorado; and his favorite daughter, Janice Laney (Stephen) of Porter, TX. John is also survived by his six grandchildren, Colin Criminger (Dana) of Cypress, TX; Cody Wood (Liz) of Houston, TX, Mitchell Wood (Katie) of Overland Park, KS, Matthew Wood (Moira) of Bella Vista, AR, Katherine Borrelli of Kingwood, TX, Colin Hamm of Kingwood, TX; nine great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the CNA's and nurses at Hudson Memorial Nursing Home for their care while John was a resident there.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 15, 2026, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Young's Funeral Home in El Dorado, AR.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Mt. Union Baptist Church off the Iron Mountain Rd. with the Rev. Ken Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors.
