

Lawrence was born to Marguerite Lawrence Powell and Leslie Willis Powell Jr. He attended LA Tech and SAU. He married the love of his life and they raised two daughters. He was devoted to his family who will miss him dearly. He began his banking career at Exchange Bank in the 1960's and retired from First National Bank in the early 2000's. He was a former realtor and justice of the peace, a referee with the AR Athletics Association (basketball and football), former member/board member with the Boys Club, Union County Fair Association, Parkers Chapel Booster Club, Chamber of Commerce and St. Mark Methodist Church. In his later years he joined with Dumas Methodist Church (now becoming Christ Global Methodist). He loved to hunt, fish, work in the garden and sports.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Martha Starritt Powell. Daughters, Jill Powell Mitchell (Brent) and Jan Powell Porter. 3 grandchildren, Jessica Mitchell Gerrie (lan), Jason Mitchell and Brookelynn Porter. 2 great grandchildren, Emerson and Alex Gerrie. A sister, Dianne Powell Madere (Jan). And several nieces.
At his request, a graveside service will be held for family and friends at the Wyatt Parnell Cemetery (Parnell Road, El Dorado AR) on Friday January 2, 2026 at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Global Methodist Church, 2010 W Hillsboro, El Dorado, AR 71730, or the donor's choice.
