Born May 24, 1933 in El Dorado, he was the son of Mina Earl and Thelma Kent Bright. As a young man, he began working for Arkansas Power & Light (later becoming Entergy), a job he took great pride in. Over the 45 years there, he accumulated many experiences and enjoyed telling stories about his work and the people he worked with. Mina had a love for the outdoors that never faded. Whether riding his lawn mower around the yard, casting a line while fishing, or venturing into the woods hunting, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Among his favorite hunting memories was bagging the biggest buck of Union County. The mount hung proudly on the wall, and he enjoyed telling the story behind it to anyone who would listen. He, and late wife Betty, enjoyed playing cards with Nancy and Charlie for New Year’s Eve, only missing one year. He also had a special place in his heart for his loyal dog “Scoop”, who was a constant companion.
Preceding him in death along with his parents were his wife, Betty Sales Bright, sisters, Betty Taylor Gentry and Marjorie Whaley and a grandson, Conner Burchfield.
Survivors include a daughter, Dana Bright Burchfield of Smackover and a son, Rudy Bright, Jr (Cherie) of El Dorado and a sister, Delores Calise of Minden, LA. Surviving grandchildren are Zach Burchfield (Tania), Evan Burchfield (Destiny), Brady Burchfield, Dean Bright and Daisy Bright along with great-grandchildren, Ellie Burchfield, Sebastian Burchfield and Hayden Burchfield; along with many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2026 at Young's with a graveside service to follow at 2:00 p.m. in Smackover Cemetery with Rev. Carly Davis officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors.
