She was born July 18, 1923 in El Dorado to Granberry and Clara Smith. Velma owned and operated a beauty shop. She loved to organize and give parties and most of all she loved the Lord Jesus Christ and her family.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband, C.L. Parnell, Jr.; four brothers, Howard, Fred, Robert, and Oscar Smith; one son, Wayne Allen Parnell and one grandson, Matthew Parnell.
Survivors include two sons, Cliff Parnell and his wife Edie of Little Rock and Mike Parnell and his wife Cathy of El Dorado; two daughters, Kim Thurman and her husband Ronnie of El Dorado and Cindy Kitchens of Bryant, AR; ten grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013 at West Side Baptist Church with Bro. Gerald Perry officiating. Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Park under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
Visitation will be held 12:30-2:00 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at the church.
