If you all only knew what this little girl went through during her short life. Aaliyah was and continues to be the true definition of a little fighter, a miracle, a true warrior! Aaliyah was diagnosed in utero with Hydrocephalus and Dandy Walker Syndrome which we had no idea what this even meant at the time. All we knew from drs was that she may not walk or talk, she may have developmental delays, she may even be stillborn and a whole bunch of other horrible “maybes”.. for the rest of our pregnancy all we knew were these terrible things and all of the “might be’s”.. And all we were asked was to terminate the pregnancy at almost every appointment after being given the diagnosis. Our hearts and minds were shattered and filled with worry of all of the unknowns, but with god by our side and by keeping our faith, we decided to continue with the pregnancy as we did not feel capable of determining our baby’s fate. Even if she could not walk, or talk, we would do everything in our power to help her and her needs just like we’d imagine any other parent in our shoes would do. Our baby deserved a chance.
From losing her twin early on in the womb, to being 2 months premature, to living 4 months out of her 11 months of her life in the hospital, 6 surgeries later, and all of the countless doctor, ER and hospital visits.. This little girl beat all the odds that were against her as she fought until she took her last breath. And for that, we are so thankful we gave her the chance we knew she deserved.
Mommy and Daddy love you sooooo much our little slice of heaven! Thank you for not giving up on us when they said you would. Keep on shining and thriving forever in heaven my love.
