

Albert R. Haag

Born in Peoria, Illinois, Al Haag attended Notre Dame and graduated from Northwestern. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945, entering as a Private and discharged as a Captain. He served in an anti-aircraft unit and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal as well as 5 battle stars. He moved to El Paso in 1957 to found the Haag Tractor Company, a dealership for the Caterpillar Corporation and later owned and operated Stepco, Inc., representing manufacturers of construction equipment and industrial instruments and controls. He was a director for the Northgate National Bank, Vice President for membership of the Sun Carnival Assn., a director of the Industrial Development Board of El Paso, Past President of Our Lady’s Youth Center, and an advisory board member for Loretto Academy and for Hotel Dieu Hospital. He was active in the United Way of El Paso as well as the Rotary and Sierra Clubs, the El Paso Country Club and was a faithful member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-seven years, Betty Ann McCarthy Haag and three children: Richard, John and Anne. He is survived by a son, Mark Haag, a daughter, D’Arcy Donaldson and six grandchildren: Ryan Haag, Amanda Mascarelli, Jillana Wilde, Kristy Donaldson, Logan Haag, Sean Donaldson and thirteen great-grandchildren. Al is also survived by his second family—his many friends and fellow residents at the MonteVista of El Paso. A gathering to celebrate Al’s life will take place on Thursday, May 12, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a Vigil at 7:00 PM at Martin Funeral Home West, 128 N. Resler Dr. El Paso, TX 79912 a Memorial Service will be held Friday, May 13, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1551 Belvidere Street, El Paso, TX.
