Our father, grandfather, and great-grandfather was born in Chandler, CO on November 26, 1933. His grandmother always had the desire to visit Torreon, Coahuila MX. His grandmother’s wish came true and that is where Alejandro was raised. He began working at an early age, some of his early jobs consisted of selling cheese and delivering pharmaceutical products, via bicycle.
Later following his older brother’s footsteps, in his early twenty’s, Alejandro moved to Cd Juarez, Chihuahua. He resided in Colonia Bella Vista, a couple of houses from who would eventually become his wife of 60 years, Angela Alvarado.
Alejandro began working at Darby Shire located on Paisano Dr in El Paso, TX in 1954. Darby Shire moved to Canutillo, TX and renamed to Bergen Steel Company. He retired in May 2000, he worked 45 years for the same company. During his 45 year tenure at Bergen Steel Company, he lost his left thumb while at work.
During the spring of 1957, Alejandro and Angela joined in matrimony at Iglesia del Rosario located in Colonia Bella Vista in Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua, on May 26.
Alejandro Rodriguez is survived by his wife Angela and four children, Maria de Jesus Carreon, Sylvia Munoz, Norma Jones, and Alejandro Rodriguez Jr; 8 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters Maria de la Luz Guillen and Maria Luisa Varela; 2 brothers Leobardo Rodriguez and Jesus Rodriguez. He was preceded by his mother Juanita Ortiz Rodriguez and father Jose Rodriguez; sister Maria Magdalena Calderon; two brothers Salvador Gonzalez and Santiago Gonzalez.
Our loving father was humble and hard working. His favorite past times were reading the newspaper and playing scratch-offs. He also enjoyed watching boxing and soccer games. His favorite soccer team was Santos Laguna FC from Torreon, Coahuila. He also took pleasure in watching the Mexican National Soccer Team play. When either of his favorite teams lost or tied his favorite saying was “ya valio pito”.
When tough times were approaching or when something went wrong, his favorite saying was “nacido para perder”. When asked what his favorite color was, his response was “verde porque es el color del dinero”, this is an example of his good sense of humor. His favorite saying for his youngest grandson was “atta boy cowboy”.
Our grandfather was like the sunshine during the summer, radiant and full of life. His loving and kind words always made everything seem not as bad and everyone felt at “home”. He always welcomed everyone with a smile and gave everyone his blessings when they left. Grampa never scolded anyone. Even during the most difficult time with his illness, he was always very calm, serene, and never complained.
