

Alfred Lloyd Hulbert, better known as "Al" to his family and friends, passed away on Thursday evening, April 21, 2011. Al was born August 3, 1915 in Lincoln, New Mexico to Molly Lindly Hulbert and Arthur Lloyd Hulbert. Al had one older sister, Sophronia Hulbert Ramey, who passed away in 2000. His two younger sisters, Edith Hulbert Womack and Ada Hulbert Whitlock live in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
Al graduated from Capitan High School in Capitan, New Mexico. He was active in many clubs and activities but playing football for Capitan High was his favorite! He completed three years of college and began working for the New Mexico Highway department building roads all over his beloved New Mexico as well as learning the art of surveying, A survey job with the US Bureau of Reclamation brought him to Ysleta, Texas where he worked until he retired in 1971. In 1971, when Al retired he was the chief of the Ysleta office. While in Ysleta, he met his future wife, Constance Burrus, a young teacher in the Ysleta Independent School District.
Al married Constance "Connie" Burrus and enlisted in the US Army in 1943 where he served for three and a half years. After successful completion of Officer Candidate school, he was commissioned Second Lieutenant and served in New Guinea in the Artillery Corps. He was discharged in 1946 as a First Lieutenant. Connie and Al's son, Alfred Joseph Hulbert, "Doc," was born in 1944 and daughter, Kathleen Louise Hulbert was born in 1950.
Al was a devoted member of the Ysleta Lion's club and held many offices during his many years with the Lions.
Al was preceded in death by his beloved son, Alfred "Doc" in 1978 and his beloved wife, Connie in 2002.
Al is survived by his daughter, Kathleen and son in law, Bill Key of La Mesa, New Mexico, granddaughter Lorri Zanini and great grandson Alfred Ernest Zanini of Las Vegas, Nevada, and daughter-in-law Vicki Hulbert of Cloudcroft, New Mexico.
Visitation for Al will be on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Martin East. Graveside Service at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
