

Marie was born on July 15, 1952 in El Paso, Texas and was a lifelong resident. She attended Ysleta High School, where she met the love of her life, Maurice Portillo. The two were inseparable from the moment they met, and their love story continued to flourish over the years. Marie and Maurice both graduated from Ysleta High School, marking the beginning of a lifetime of shared dreams and adventures.
After high school, Marie and Maurice welcomed two beautiful children, Joemike and Denise, into their lives. As a devoted mother, Marie poured her heart into raising her children, instilling in them the values of kindness, compassion, and hard work.
Driven by her love for children and her nurturing spirit, Marie opened a home daycare, where she provided a safe and loving environment for countless children over the past 35 years. Her home was always filled with laughter, joy, and the happy chaos of little ones, each of whom she cared for as if they were her own. Many of the children knew her as Auntie. Her impact on the lives of the children she cared for and their families was immeasurable, and she was deeply loved by all who knew her.
Marie was known for her warm smile, generous heart, and unwavering dedication to her family and the children she cared for. Her kindness and selflessness touched the lives of many, leaving a legacy of love and compassion that will be remembered forever.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Maurice Portillo her loving children, Joemike Portillo and Denise Nicole Chacon-Portillo; her grandchildren, Joemike Rene Portillo and Krystal Portillo; her great-grandchildren Erin Portillo and Abel Portillo (children of Joemike Rene Portillo) and Eleric Jay Martinez (child of Krystal Portillo); brother Oscar Chacon (wife Blanca), Sister NormaJean Guerra (husband Tony), brother Roy Chacon (wife Maggie); nieces and nephews Tanya Chacon, Oscar Chacon, Mark Anthony Guerra, and Bianca Guerra.
She was preceded in death by her father Fausto B. Chacon and mother Rosa Maria Chacon.
A celebration of Marie's life will be held at Hillcrest Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.
Though Marie has left this world, the love she shared and the lives she touched will remain in our hearts forever. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Rest in peace, Marie. You will always be in our hearts.
