Our beloved Augusta Lambert Edmonds passed away peacefully on Friday morning, 26 September 2014, while being cared for as a patient at the Saint Teresa Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, after a year of physical and mental suffering. Augusta was born in the little town of Atmore, Alabama on 20 June 1929 to the late Ransom Lambert and Beatrice Rabb Lambert. She was the second oldest child in a family of six children, three girls and three boys. She was preceded in death by all but her youngest sister, Barnetta Roach of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Left to honor and cherish her memory are her husband of 54 years, David Edmonds, and their son, David Jr. After graduating high school, Augusta left Alabama and moved north to Pittsburgh, Pa., to live with her older sister Rose. Since her childhood desire was to become a "Cosmetologist", Augusta soon tired of Pittsburgh and moved to Washington, D.C. to attend the Renowned Madam C.J. Walker Beauty College. After graduating from Beauty College in 1957, she worked as a "Renting Booth" beauty operator in Washington, where she perfected her beauty operating craft and business acumen. In 1958 she moved to EI Paso, Texas where she met and became lifelong friends with her future business partner. Together as business partners, they opened and operated the "House of Charm" Beauty Salon. In 1959, Augusta met the "love of her life", David Edmonds. They were married on the 8th of August 1960, and remained married for 54 years and her passing on to be with the Lord. Together, with their son David Junior, the Edmonds lived a wonderful, happy and enjoyable life. Augusta was a kind hearted and caring person always willing to assist other people in need of assistance. She was also a very good cook, noted for her preparation of "Macaroni and Cheese" and "Sweet Potato Pie". She was a member of the EI Paso Chapter of Links, Inc. Each year, normally around Valentine's Day in February, the Links would host a luncheon for Senior Citizens of the community. Augusta would always volunteer to prepare macaroni and cheese and green cabbage. Because of her illness, Augusta was not available to cook for the Senior Citizens luncheon for this year of 2014, and was surely missed. The family of Augusta Edmonds would like to praise and thank the staff at Saint Teresa Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their remarkable care and attention that they provided to Augusta during the year that she was a resident patient at that facility. May God continue to bless you all. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 pm on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Hillcrest Funeral Home-Carolina with a Celebration of Life at 7:00 pm. Home Going Celebration will be at 11:00 am Friday, October 3, 2014 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Committal will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
