Bonifacio Sanchez, (72), of El Paso, Texas, passed away on September 20, 2021. He has joined our mother, Refugio Sanchez, and our two brothers, Rodolfo and Jaime Sanchez, and other family members. They are all now celebrating together in heaven.
Funeral services will be held on September 30, 2021 at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 N. Carolina Dr., El Paso, Texas 79915. Visitation will be from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm. Rosary will be at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Ft. Bliss National cemetery at 2:00 pm.
Bonifacio graduated from Bowie High School in 1968. While at Bowie, he was part of the ROTC drill team and was the editor of the Growler. He got to be at the press conference in which President Lyndon B. Johnson was present. That was a big highlight in his life.
In later life, he served as a member of the United States Air Force for four years. When he returned, he joined the El Paso Police Department. He retired after 23 years of service. Since he wasn’t ready to sit around doing nothing, he went to work for Southwest Airlines for 5 years. He really enjoyed restocking the peanuts!
He will be remembered for his big smile, his love of life, his love of fishing, and for always willing to help out.
He is survived by his siblings, Vicente (Jenny), Jose Luis (Rebecca), Antonia, Maria, Josefina (Ruben), and Cecilia (Nelly). He will be missed by many nieces and nephews.
