Buford Lowell Head, March 07, 1942 - Nov. 01, 2024 is survived by his wife Becky Head (of 40+ years), daughters Valerie Kromas and Stephanie Head. His grandson Hunter Kayden was the joy of his life the last few months before he died. Lowell was born in a rural area in New Mexico on March 7, 1942. The area had received a large amount of snowfall the previous evening and the doctor could not reach his parent’s home. A neighbor woman helped deliver him that day. The closest town was Weed, New Mexico, so it was registered as his birthplace.
Growing up Lowell and his family moved throughout Texas because his father worked in paving new roads throughout Texas. He had very fond memories of living in Abilene, Bangs, Belton, Hamilton, Hico, Salt Flat, Kaufman, Balmorrhea, Rockwall, Kermit, Killeen, and finally Odessa. After graduating from Odessa High in 1960, he joined the Air Force that October. Basic training at Lackland Air Force Base to Sheppard Air Force Base to 6920th Security Wing (USAFSS) in San Francisco. In Oct 1963 he was assigned to implement high security processing at Shu Lin Kou Air Station, Taiwan. He was selected Outstanding Airman of the Quarter within Pac Scty Rgn Headquarters for the quarter ending March 31, 1963, an honor he was very proud of. Afterwards, he was transferred to Hickman AFB then to PAC Scty Rgn APO 915 in San Francisco. After serving his country he found a job as a bookkeeper in the Dallas area. Seeing an ad in the newspaper for a job in El Paso requiring computer experience he applied and was hired by the Popular which he worked at for 25+ years as a computer analyst. During his time at the Popular he took college courses and became president of the local chapter of Data Processing Management Association - DPMA. Upon a dare from a former worker he took the MENSA test and passed it becoming a member in 1982. Lowell spent many years working for Providence Memorial Hospital as a data analyst. With both jobs combined he worked 80 hours a week, and still made time to play softball, golfing, board games and going to the movies, especially comedy. He enjoyed making people laugh. In March of 1994, he accepted a position as Manager for his brother-in-law Roger’s business Vision Software in Austin, Texas. He spent 25 years living with his family in Austin, before moving to Kyle to semi-retire. He is also survived by his son Michael Head and daughter Katrina Phillips. Other survivors include his brother Bobby and wife Linda Head, sister Arlene and her husband Roger Parker, and brother Craig and his wife Vickie Head.
