

Carmen Jacobo Uribe, RN, a beloved figure in the El Paso community, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2024 at the age of 104. Born in El Paso in 1920, Carmen led a remarkable life dedicated to nursing, family, and community service.
Carmen's journey in healthcare began with her graduation from Bowie High School in 1940, followed by her training at the prestigious Hotel Dieu School of Nursing, where she earned her RN credentials in 1945. Her passion for nursing led her to a fulfilling career at Southwestern General Hospital, where she compassionately served in the delivery room. Later, Carmen dedicated herself to public health, working tirelessly for the El Paso City County Health Department, where her commitment to caring for others truly shown.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Carmen's greatest joy was found in her family. She was a loving mother to her three children: Andrea U. Sanders, RN, the late Miquel A. Uribe, and Rick Uribe, CLU. Carmen's legacy extends through her extensive family tree, including over 30 grandchildren and more than 40 great-grandchildren, each of whom she cherished dearly.
In her retirement years, Carmen embraced life to the fullest. She delighted in spending time with her grandchildren, exploring the world through travel, honing her skills in crocheting, Mahjong, puzzles and nurturing friendships that enriched her life immeasurably.
Carmen Jacobo Uribe will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to healthcare, her boundless love for her family, and her vibrant spirit that touched the lives of all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, strength, and generosity that will continue to inspire generations to come.
A memorial service to celebrate Carmen's life will be held at Hillcrest/Dignity Funeral Home 1060 N Carolina Dr on July 17, 2024 from 3 to 7 pm. Her Funeral Mass will be at St Pius X Catholic Church 7-18-2024 at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to The Humane Society of El Paso, Animal Rescue League of El Paso, or The Salvation Army, reflecting Carmen's lifelong commitment to improving the well-being of others.
