

Dora Aurea Anzures Lopez, age 103, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 11th surrounded by her family. She was born on December 30th, 1919 to Francisco and Aurea Anzures. She was preceded in death by her parents, the love of her life; husband Tomas Lopez, her sister Luz Anzures and her brothers, Alfonso, Francisco, Jose and Roberto Anzures.
Dora attended AOY Elementary and graduated from Bowie High School in 1938. While attending Bowie, she was very active in many clubs: The Aztec Staff, English Club, Spanish Club, and The Growler’s Staff. She remained a very loyal Bowie Bear attending many functions, dances and reunions. At Bowie she met her future husband who joined the Armed Forces during World War II. During the war she worked with the government in the Department of Censorship.
She later worked over 30 years at W.R. Weaver Company which was a manufacturer of rifle scopes. There she worked in human resources and was an insurance clerk. She played the piano and loved to dance. Later in life she volunteered and Little Flower Church and taught Confirmation classes to teenagers for 10 years. Many of her students called her “Grandma Dora”. Dora was a vivacious, friendly, happy and caring person. She will be missed by all her family and loved ones. Dora is survived by her children, Dora Lou Figueroa (Victor), Grace Rocha (Joe), Maria Teresa Tarango (Jose Raul) and Tommy Lopez (Velia), her brother Juan Anzures (Amparo), 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 North Carolina Drive, El Paso, Texas on Tuesday February 28 from 5pm to 7pm followed by a rosary at 7pm. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday March 1st at Little Flower Church at 171 Polo Inn at 12:00 noon followed by her interment at Ft. Bliss Cemetery.
