Dwayne Sanford McElroy, 75, passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord after a life devoted to faith, family, and service to others. Born in Albuquerque, Dwayne moved to El Paso at the age of three and proudly called El Paso home for the rest of his life.
Dwayne was married for 44 wonderful years to the love of his life, Sheila Storm McElroy, who preceded him in death. Their marriage was marked by deep devotion, steadfast partnership, and enduring love. Together, they were faithful members of Coronado Baptist Church for 40 years, where Dwayne served as a deacon for three decades.
He dedicated his life to serving the people of El Paso, first as a proud 28-year veteran of the El Paso Police Department and later as an educator with EPISD for more than a decade. Through both professions, he sought to protect, guide, and uplift others with quiet strength, integrity, and compassion. He will be remembered for his steady character, strong work ethic, and devotion to proclaiming Christ through his actions.
Dwayne is survived by his daughter, Magen Ellison (Chris); his son, Michael McElroy (Marissa); brothers Arnold McElroy and Mathew McElroy; cousin Ken Fagerstrom; and his beloved grandchildren: McKenna, Campbell, Caspian, Mackenzie, and Max. His family takes comfort in knowing he is reunited in eternal peace with Sheila and held in the Lord’s loving care.
A private internment of ashes will be held in Fall 2026. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for the purpose of Parkinson's research.
