Edward McDonald passed away on November 21, 2025. A proud lifelong El Pasoan, he was born on May 30, 1937, to Jose and Angela McDonald. He grew up near Alameda and Cebada streets during the post-Depression and World War II era, in the company of his siblings and a large extended family. In that close-knit community, Edward learned the values that would define his life: faith, hard work, loyalty, and the importance of education.
He attended Guardian Angel and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1955. After high school, Edward answered the call to serve his country, joining the Navy. He served proudly aboard the USS Floyd B. Parks as a Boilerman in the Pacific Fleet.
After his service, Edward returned home to El Paso to begin the next chapter of his life—building a family and starting a distinguished career with the El Paso Fire Department. Over 27 years of dedicated service, he rose to the rank of Captain at Station #5, not far from the neighborhood where he grew up. His commitment to protecting and serving his community was unwavering.
Outside of work, Edward found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved hunting, fishing, and had a lifelong passion for firearms. But above all, his greatest happiness came from spending time with his family. In his later years, those moments—whether quiet evenings with Libby or gatherings with children and grandchildren—were what mattered most to him.
Edward is preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Angela McDonald; his brothers Dr. Carlos McDonald & Jose McDonald II, sister Lucy Hildebrandt. He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Libby, children, Edward McDonald II, Kathy Stokes, and Paul McDonald, Brother James McDonald, Sister Micaela Ortega, Brother Frank McDonald,
five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. His legacy of love, service, and integrity will live on in all who knew him.
