Elsa Cordero Martinez was born in Miguel Auza, Zacatecas, Mexico, on March 28, 1947, and went to be with the Lord on September 29, 2026, at the age of 79. She was a longtime resident of Anthony, Texas.
Elsa studied in Miguel Auza, Zacatecas, to become a secretary and became skilled in shorthand. She later used those skills while working at a Baptist church in Torreón, Coahuila. During her time in Torreón, she met the man who would become her husband, Alejandro, and they later married.
After coming to the United States, she continued to value both academic and spiritual education. She earned her GED, became a naturalized U.S. citizen, and remained a faithful servant in her local church. Her love for the Lord was evident in the way she lived, served, encouraged others, and looked for opportunities to share her faith.
Throughout her life, Elsa was devoted to her family and deeply committed to her faith. She was passionate about sharing the Gospel, raising her children, serving the Lord, and ministering to others wherever she went.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Moises and Raquel Cordero, and her siblings Egla, Magdalena, Abdenago, and Abel Cordero, and her brothers in law, Brad Tippens and Pastor Misael Loera.
Elsa is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 60 years, Alejandro Martinez, and her children: Aaron (Mabel) Martinez; Drucila Moralez; Alejandra (Carlos) Olivas; Betzabe (Julian) Britton; Elsa (Eleazar) Estorga; Ariel Martinez; Felicitas Trevizo; Ruth (Israel) Custodio; and Karen Martinez.
She is also survived by her siblings: Abigail Loera; Efrain (Ofelia) Cordero; Tabitha Tippens; Israel (Susie) Cordero; Priscilla (Jose Luis) Contreras; and Raquel (Carlos) Rivera. Her sisters in law, Consuelo Cordero and Luz Cordero.
Her grandchildren are Aaron (Allison) Martinez, Zabdiel Martinez, Jacqueline (Joshua) Pacheco, Michael (Yadira) Moralez, Kenya (Taylor) Archuleta, Julian (Emily) Britton, Ryan Estorga, Christian Trevizo, Anthony Trevizo, Genesis Custodio, Malena Rhodes, Lily Custodio, Emily Estorga, and Eliza Custodio.
Her great-grandchildren are Joshua Pacheco and Zariah Archuleta.
She has many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Services will be held at Primera Iglesia Bautista Hispana in Canutillo, Texas. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 6, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 7, from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Pines in Sunland Park, New Mexico.
Pallbearers are Nathaniel, Zabdiel, Xander, Ryan, Christian, Micah, Joshua, and Joshua Antonio.
