ESTELLA GRIJALVA (94) was born on December 6, 1926 in El Paso, Texas to parents Antonia and Juan Caro, Jr. Estella was preceded in death by her 3 brothers (Jesus Caro, Sr; Reynaldo Caro and Juan Caro Ill). She is survived by her sister, Celia Mena.
Estella was proud to have been born and raised in the Segundo Barrio and loved to talk about her experiences growing up. It is there where she met her future husband and soul mate Jose Grijalva Sr., and the two became inseparable. She attended Bowie High School and subsequently began to work at Zork Hardware along with Jose.
In 1951, the childhood sweethearts were married, and there began a lifetime of love and family. Estella became a homemaker and dedicated herself to raising a family, which she did without compare. During their 67 years of marriage, they had 5 children, 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren, many of which they assisted in raising and were extremely proud of.
Estella was a dedicated, loving and true believer of our Lord, Jesus Christ. She was a lifelong member of the
Catholic Church in El Paso at the parishes of San Ignacio, Our Lady of Assumption and St. Stephens Catholic Churches. At Our Lady of Assumption, she was a member of the Auxiliary Society where she assisted with various functions, ranging from counting the collections, offerings for the poor, etc.
Estella was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jose Grijalva, Sr. in 2017. She was surrounded by her family, when she peacefully went to be with our Lord on April 19, 2021. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Tony (Susie), Yoli Castillo (Richard), Joe (Sylvia), Gabriel (Belinda) and Margie Carmona (Jesus), grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Estella was the heart and soul of her family. Her wonderful spirit, kindness, unconditional love and smile will be missed dearly. She has been reunited with her lifelong love, to be together for eternity.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 10, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Hillcrest East Funeral HomeCarolina with Vigil/Rosary at 3:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at St Stephens Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Mount Carmel Cemetery following mass.
