Gilbert was born on June 9, 1954, in Ysleta, Texas. He awaited the arrival of the “Love of his Life” Jesusita G. Silva before exhaling his final God given breath on July 3, 2021.
Gilbert lives on through his wife, Jesusita “Jessie” Silva, his only son, Gilbert “Gilly” Silva, his daughter-in-law, Amanda Jean Silva, his favorite grandson, Jude Avery Silva, and his favorite granddaughter, Bella Eve Silva. Gilbert also watches over his siblings, Guadalupe Hernandez, Maria Lerma, Robert Talamantes and many cousins, nieces, nephews and godchildren.
Gilbert and Jessie shared a miraculous 45 years as Husband and Wife. On their 10th wedding anniversary, they chose to change the life of one lucky child. With sheer excitement and with the utmost care, built the foundation for their blossoming family.
Gilbert lived to immerse himself in all sports and activities Gilly wanted to pursue, no matter the distance it took him from home. He had a passion for traveling and taking anyone along for the ride, even if he had been there plenty of times before, he just wanted to make sure that everyone was able to experience as much as he could provide.
Gilbert lived a very Catholic life and lived by many moral codes, such as:
“Treat others well always because you may not know what they may be going through in their life”. “If someone needs help, help them, even if that means you don’t eat or struggle to make ends meet and lastly, “Take pride in everything you do, whether be it your work, who you are as a person, what you own or purchase, and always leave it all on the field”.
My father’s adoration towards others knew no bounds. As a master carpenter, he used his knowledge and skill for the greater good. We can all probably look around our house and remember something he may have installed or fixed for us. His devout faith led him to be a parishioner at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, and San Felipe de Jesus Catholic Church where he served in various ministries to include annual bazaar set up, St. Martha’s Kitchen, Stations of the Cross, Beloved, and Marriage Enrichment at Our Lady of the Light Catholic Church.
Gilbert held many positions over his professional career within the community which include, but are not limited to El Paso County, University of Texas System, The El Paso Independent School District and Self Employed Contractor (in his early years).
With his expertise, direction, hands on work, and attention to detail, my father built physical structures that can be seen across the state. Work, however, was only one legacy he left behind. His legacy lives on in each project he completed, every person he encountered, every friend made, every child baptized, every child he helped raise and/or mentor and most importantly the memories created and experienced with the “Apple of his Eye”, Jessie Silva and his favorite son Gilly. My father’s name and memory will be carried on proudly by my mother, my wife, myself and our son and daughter.
Today, we say goodbye, but only for a short while.
Today we remember all the good times with the bad, knowing,
That the tears we shed together have been well worth it.
You have always been my KING, my dearest friend, my shoulder to cry on.
You are my blood. You are my heart and soul.
You will forever be my guiding light in the darkness to come.
I am blessed to have you as my father and friend always, because,
This place where I stand tall is where you have helped lead me.
Forever I am grateful, and in admiration in all you did for everyone.
You were GOD sent.
For all the years we shared, we thank you, for all the laughter, we thank you
You will not be forgotten.
We will keep all the memories and thoughts of you
To look back on, every day without you.
I Love You Dad
