Gladys Theresa Crowely O’Toole Healy better known to all who knew and loved her as “Boots”, passed away peacefully the morning of May 10, 2025. She is preceded in death by her daughter Maggie O’Toole, son Kevin F. O’Toole, her first husband, M.K. “Jack” O’Toole, and her second husband, Wm. H. Healy; her parents, Michael J. and Gladys R. Crowley, her three brothers, Robert “Bob”, Don and Michael J.”Bo” Crowley Jr., her much loved in-laws, and far too many Crowley and O’Toole nieces and nephews. She is survived by her daughter, Brigid O’Toole Fair (Michael), her sons Patrick F. O’Toole and Vincent F.X. O’Toole (Cathy) and her grandchildren, Kelley S. O’Toole, Connor F. O’Toole, Sarah C. O’Toole, John V. O’Toole, Ryan G. O’Toole and her great granddaughter, Kathleen J. O’Toole.
Boots was born July 10, 1929, in El Paso, TX and grew up between El Paso, TX and Los Angeles, CA. She attended St. Patrick’s Parochial School and El Paso High School. She graduated from Los Angeles High School and attended U.C.L.A.. In 1949, Boots left college to marry Jack O’Toole. In 1958, they returned to El Paso when Jack began working for El Paso Natural Gas Co.. To her delight, they were now near Boots’s mother and her Crowley family. She and Jack raised all five children in El Paso involving themselves in St. Matthew parish and their childrens’ sports, plays, and dance recitals.
Boots returned to college in her forties and earned her R.N. in the first graduating class of El Paso Community College’s Nursing Program in 1978. She worked for over twenty years as a nurse at Sierra Hospital, and multiple other nursing positions. Boots volunteered for El Paso Christ Child Society, Discover El Paso, and many school functions for her children. She was a Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout den mother and a member of El Paso Women’s Club and P.E.O.
After Jack’s death in 2002, Boots found joy once again with her second husband, Bill Healy. The Healy family warmly embraced her and she and Bill spent five happy years together before he passed away in November 2009.
Boots was a great cook, talented seamstress, skilled artist, and reluctant athlete. She most enjoyed spending time with her large and lively Irish family and many loved friends providing something good to eat and having a good laugh. We will miss her sense of style and winning smile. She will forever be close in our hearts.
Boots’s life will be honored with a Rosary at Martin’s Funeral Home on June 5, 2025, with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m., rosary will begin at 2:00 p.m. She will be interned in San Diego CA at a family ceremony September 26, 2025.
