In Loving Memory of Gudelia Samaniego
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Gudelia Samaniego, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, who left to be with the Lord on April 26, 2026, at the age of 88.Gudelia was born on November 12, 1937, in Aguascalientes, Mexico, to the late Rafael Torres and Gudelia Herbert Azuara. She often talked about her treasured childhood memories of attending La Feria de San Marcos and the elaborate celebrations on El Dia de los Muertos. Gudelia married the love of her life, Uriel Samaniego, on February 23, 1963. As partners for over 40 years, they built a beautiful life together filled with countless memories, love, and instilled in their children the importance of kindness, hard work, and compassion. Uriel preceded her death in 2003, leaving a void that will never be filled. Gudelia was a devoted mother to her 5 children, Hilda Valdez (Leo), Christina Atkins (Robert), Carmen Atkins (Joseph), Uriel Samaniego Jr. (Lisa), and Elizabeth Zamora (Daniel). Her beautiful spirit extended to her grandchildren, who brought her immense joy: Jessica, Monica, Vanessa, Robert III, Julia, Alyssa, Jordan, Celeen, Brianna, Daniel, Andres, and her great-grandchildren: Damaris, Damian, Anai, Iana, Janae, Iris, Romeo, and Kaia. She cherished every moment spent with them, attending school events, sharing childhood stories, and standing up to school “bullies”. She filled their lives with love and laughter. She was known for being a compassionate caregiver, a risqué joke teller, a talented cook, and being the life of the party. She made everyone feel welcomed in her home and had the ability to light up a room with her kindness. As the matriarch, she gathered family and friends for holiday celebrations and dinners, creating lasting memories and cherished traditions. Gudelia’s legacy of love, strength, and generosity will live on in the hearts of those she touched. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. A special thank you to the nurses at Hospice of El Paso for the compassionate care they provided our mother during her time in hospice. Your kindness, patience, and dedication made a profound difference in her final days, we will always be immensely grateful. A celebration of her life will be held on May 5, 2026 at Martin Funeral home at 1460 George Dieter, at 7 PM for the rosary and viewing from 5- 9. The mass will be at San Antonio de Padua Church on May 6, 2026 at 9:30 AM followed by interment at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
