

LTC Harold F. Smith Jr. 87 passed away in El Paso, TX on April 15, 2010. He was born April 1, 1923 in Los Angeles, California, and preceded in death by his parents Harold Sr. and Hazel Smith. LTC Smith proudly served in the United States Army for 30 years, as a soldier in WWII, Korean, and Vietnam War. He served as a private through LTC, as a combat medic with a rifle platoon, many positions as a commander of military units in the infantry and Military Intelligence. He activated the 14th Military Intelligence Battalion and commanded the unit as well. He was a highly decorated soldier and among his many medals he earned The Bronze Star, Meritorious Service, and Army Commendation Medal. He is survived by his wife, Carol, of 27 years. Hal was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his many family and friends. He leaves behind 8 adult children, 10 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. He loved his christian family at Coronado Baptist. He was also a proud member of Ft. Bliss Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW). The family would like to extend their gratitude to the many Dr's especially Dr. Maria Aloba, Texas Oncology, and the many nurses for their kindness and dedication during this difficult time. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM at Martin Funeral Home West. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association of El Paso, 233 E. Mesa Hills Dr., El Paso, TX 79912, American Cancer Society , 909 E.
