HENRY M. DITTERT, M.D., 85, went home to be with the Lord on May 26, 2022 in El Paso, Texas. He was one of the first physicians south of the river in Austin, Texas when he opened his family medicine office in 1966. He graduated from the University of Texas in Austin and the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He served as a medical officer in the U.S. Air Force for five years prior to beginning private practice. He founded the South Austin Medical Clinic and practiced for 35 years, until his retirement in 2001, at which time he moved to El Paso to live near family.
Dr. Dittert was born in Cuero, Texas and grew up in Victoria. He was married almost 61 years to his high school sweetheart, Jeanette Haney Dittert, who survives him. He is also survived by two daughters and their husbands, Lynn Andenoro (Dr. John), Kalispell, MT., and Anne Horak (David) El Paso. Other survivors are his six grandchildren, John Henry (Jack) Andenoro, Kalispell, MT, LTJG Kathryn Andenoro, U.S Navy, Hanford, CA, Lara Andenoro, Portland OR, Connor (Christian) Horak, San Angelo, Austin Horak, El Paso, and Parker Horak, Austin. He is also survived by a sister, Peggy Vickery, La Ward, and a godson, Mark Wiles, and his nurse of 35 years, Millie Wiles, R.N., both of Austin. Other survivors are several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister and brother.
Dr. Dittert was a faithful member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Austin, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for 36 years and a Boy Scout leader. He was a past president of Heart O’ Texas Orchid Society, and his green thumb was evidenced by beautifully landscaped yards wherever he lived. He enjoyed sailing in Austin area lakes, reading widely, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of First Baptist Church El Paso since 2001.
