I mean no disrespect with what I’m about to say. I write this with the best intentions. Please read this, and I hope you’ll see the same person I saw.
My first memory of Ida starts in kindergarten—40 years ago. One day, we both happened to have the same blue knitted hoodie sweater. That day, the cafeteria served spaghetti, and her sweater got stained with spaghetti sauce. As the school day came to an end, we both went to the coat rack and had a little girl argument about which sweater belonged to which of us. It wasn’t me who dirtied the sweater, but she insisted it was mine. So, I wore the sweater home, and my mom said it wasn’t mine because the tag indicated medium, not small. I wore a sweater where the sleeves were too long for my arms, and I can only imagine the sleeves on her arms must have been at least an inch too short. The next day, I did as my mom said and returned her sweater and asked her to return mine as well. This memory has stayed with me for so long—maybe because I find it cute and funny.
In middle school, I was walking down the hallway, and she was coming from the opposite direction. As she got closer to me, she made this playful, aggressive gesture and said, “What?! What?! That’s what I thought.” I heard her infectious laugh as she walked away. I shook my head and sighed with a bit of a smile. I said to myself, “Man, you’re crazy, Ida.” But now I know that was her way of showing that she liked me. Her tough exterior was her way of playing with you.
In high school, during senior year, the girls were trying to organize a group for the Powder Puff game, but they were short on players. She must have been desperate or just kidding around, but she asked if I wanted to be a part of it. I told her no—I’m puny. Whatever her reason for asking, I appreciate the fact that she tried to include me.

My deepest condolences to the Lucero family, I have always have those memories I had growing up with her and when we neighbors.  You will be missed by me and everyone that knew you.

Ida is a fun loving and loyal friend. I am grateful to have known her and to call her a friend. She will never be forgotten. I will treasure all the years growing up together. My condolences to all of her family and loved ones.

From the first day I met you - I thought you were gonna beat me up! Literally - Bobby and Eddie told me that you were gonna beat me up lol! But it was nothing but LOVE! Breaks my heart that you’re gone too soon! You truly will be missed! Say hiii to the homita Jasmine on the other side for me!

Ida was genuinely a cool human being. She stood out in school as the funny, kind, but tough chick. I hope her family and friends find comfort in their memories of her and support in each other.

My sincere condolences to Ida’s loved ones. We attended high school together. While Ida had a reputation for being tough,  I knew her to be a sweet, funny friend and protector. Peace be with her loved ones.

Kind, funny, and tough—those are the words that will always describe you. After more than 25 years of friendship, I am so grateful for every memory we shared. You will always have a place in my heart.
