Jim was the best uncle anyone could possibly have. I learned a lot from him, from how to drive a stick shift to how to properly dispose of a pack rat. I never got tired of hearing his stories, and am still amazed by the life he lived. He supported me no matter what I chose to do with my life. I'm grateful for the time I got to spend with him, especially out in the desert. Buen viaje

In loving memory of the BEST COOL grandpa ever ;).   We will love you and miss you always. I am so grateful to have had you as my grandpa and i couldn't have asked for anything more!! You were always there to put a smile on my face and still have even after passing. I know you were with us in sprite at your memorial in El Paso and i felt your energy and saw t with the lightning.  You are a true symbol of what a great dad, grandpa, and role model should be and i wish i had more time to spend with you and have you rub off on me because hell, I would be happy to make just the slightest impact like you have done on soooo many lives.  You have helped shape the life i live and i am so grateful for that and they way you have shown my dad and uncle to be great dads means more than you will ever know to me.  I love you so much grandpa and i will continue to speak with you and i will always have you in my heart and i thank you just being the great SILLY grandpa you were. I love you sooo much!!!!!

I was fortunate to cross paths with Jim and Deb and my soulmate Janlyn in Snow Creek, CA in 1984.  It was a magical place and a special time for all of us.  We shared many good times together and formed a lifetime bond.  Jim had a pirate spirit and love for nature and above all a strong love for family.  He had a great sense of humor and his laugh always made me laugh.  I will forever miss you Jim Cool my friend.

Jim Cool--so aptly named...but you're not just a cool guy you are a sweetheart, great friend and the wise one.  You met Deb and found something wonderful that became yet another life.  Deb was a lucky one and so were you!!!  I recall no discord ever, challenges yes, and those transitions led you to another desert.  I wish I could have visited, not that I wasn't invited, now my regret because you are gone.  I'm grateful for all the wonderful times we shared.  The positive energy always enlightened Donald and I.  After any visit our take always came back to that!!!  I will miss you dear friend, I was honored to be a part of your life.  I will always be a friend to Deborah, we are "sisters".  Rest in peace--as I know you are.  I miss you.

Gil and I were saddened to hear of Jim's passing.  Gil worked with Jim for several years together and they grew to be good friends.  We were looking at pictures just the other day and found a photo of Jim with our daughters - he was "Santa" at the Jacobs Christmas party.  Our younger daughter was about 9 and said "you didn't fool me- I know that's you, Jim."  He laughed so hard and was such a good sport.  He will be missed!

Wow cousin Jimmy I have known you all of my life and you have filled me with memories that will surpass a lifetime! Your love of life and nature is effervescent in all that you have ever done

Highlights of our life together since my earliest memories include every Christmas and every Thanksgiving together with you and cousin CAROLINE playing the piano and sharing Music! Growing up I remember driving down PCH with the top down on your roadster! You taking me flying and you doing loop-de-loops with my stomach in disaray, all while you were giggling hysterically at my green face! I Remember when I was 12 and my mom and dad took you to Catalina to babysit me and all we did was goof off and giggle for the entire 7 days!    You were always the big brother I never had and the most fascinating cousin who loved to tease and joke with love 24/7!  Loved it when you lived with us intermittently during life changing times!  I also cherish the many times we sailed together over calm and rough seas, always smiling, joking and laughing!  I will miss our card games and all our wonderful times together!  No matter what life dealt your cup was always half full and you always had a smile on your face and a deep love for all!

I will miss you always and cherish every moment we had together!  I feel a sense of peace knowing that you are with our Lord!  2 days after you left us all, I saw for the very 1st time a vermillion swallow, which I felt was a sign from you that you were OK and migrating from this place to a better place for watching over us all!   I love you and will hold you close In my heart forever

I'm going to miss my uncle Jim a lot. His sense of humor and love of having a good time are a big part of my memories from family functions and holidays while growing up. He was also among my first musical supporters and I wish we'd gotten to spend more time playing music together. When I was a kid, Uncle Jim was that mysterious, larger than life, "Most Intersting Man in the World" type character, and that never really wore off even as I grew up. Here's to you Uncle Jim!

I miss Jimmy a lot and he provided many memories.  i remember the fun we had on his boat.  just to spend the day out sailing was great fun.  jimmy worked for me at Harris Tube and David Oscar also worked at Harris Tube.  We would many a evening working on improvements to our Data processing and Inventory system.  Jimmy lived in Whitewater at  that time and he would spend the night at my house.  He would also spend nights at his sister's house which was only a mile away.  We  would spend hours talking about anything and everything.  I enjoyed the time we spent together.

I'll miss Jim and the world will be missing a ray of sunshine.

It was my pleasure to know Jim both in a work situation and as a personal friend thereafter. Although our lives took us in different directions, I always knew I could count on Jim to be both understanding and compassionate. I will miss his ability to just be there, although my memories of him will keep the relationship alive forever. I grew up as an only child and Jim is the closest person to a brother that I have ever had the privilege to know.

Missing my big brother already and yes, I, too, know what it is to have a heavy, heavy heart. It seems so similar to losing our parents as he has been in my life from the time I was born. None of us were ready for this . . . it was so sudden and he had been so full of life and enjoying fun times with Deborah and his sons, in the great outdoors and in their beautiful surroundings. Jimmy found beauty wherever he was . . . his glass seemed to be more than half full! 
We grew up in Hollywood Riviera (sounds glamorous but it was a small beach style track home) in Redondo Beach. It was a grand place to grow up . . . fields to fly our kites, the swinging tree and the Plaza nearby in Palos Verdes we often walked to, kick the can in the street with the neighborhood kids . . . we were blessed. All the while, Jimmy was there . . . keeping me safe and protecting me from harm. 
As a young bachelor, he built a two seater, French style airplane that he was so proud of. When Mother's Day rolled around, he invited Mother (and the rest of the family) for a ride. Off we went to Torrance Airport where the plane was hangered. Up we went . . . I loved it as he did loop de loops and other tricks. What a blast . . . but the guest of honor, Mother, wouldn't go up . . . she was so frightened of flying!!! He would fly over our house while Mother was out hanging clothes on the line and stall the engine, then whistle down to her. She would be beside herself!!
Our home was usually filled with music . . . like our dad, Jimmy had a gifted ear and could play a piece on the piano after just hearing it. We were exposed to all kinds of music in ourhome and Jimmy loved it all. There were often jam sessions in our living room and his bongo & conga drums come to mind. I believe he brought them back from one of his trips to Ensenada in his plane. Jimmy was a contented man and could often be heard whistling a happy tune. He was quite good at that, as well as, imitating bird calls.
Our last time together as a family (with our spouses and children added) was a trip to Catalina Island. Rod and I were visiting from Illinois where we were living at the time. We left the docks in Jimmy's sailboat and before we even were out of the breakwater there were small craft advisories and 8 foot seas. Our experience was with motor boats on lakes and this sounded quite ominous. Jimmy assured us it was no problema! He was a veteran sailor with several sailboat races from Newport Beach to Ensenada under his belt. True to his word . . . we had an exhilarating and safe sail to the island and a wonderful and fun filled time together. By the way, the return trip was by motor as there wasn't a whisper of wind for his sails!!
Jimmy loved children and was always ready to make them laugh and smile. He would wind our two sons up like tops (which they loved!!!) then would ask me why my boys were so WILD!!! He loved stirring the pot and knew just which buttons to push. We will miss his loving teasing and all those Donald Duck imitations . . . they were his trademark and will long be remembered by all the children in his life!!
My strength, comfort and peace at losing my dear brother is found in knowing he had a Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This gives me the assurance and hope of being united with him in the life to come where he is waiting for all of us to join him. Adios Hermano  . . . you blessed my life and my heart.

Jim - what a guy! Jim was a very special guy in so many ways. He loved family, he loved fun, he created fun for all around him even when it wasn't already there. He loved to "stir the pot". I've known Jim for 56 years and as his brother-in-law I saw how he loved, respected, and treated his sister, my wife. He loved his sons, grandkids and all of his extended family. If I were carving words on Jim's headstone, it would say "James Wesley Cool - A loving, caring, child of God"

Jim will be sadly missed by all of us who loved him. I felt for the 1st time in my life what having 'a heavy heart' physically feels like. We miss you too much big brother! Love-Dennis and Paty

Among our fondest memories are holiday times at Len's house when Josh, Jordan, Mitch & Erin were young.  Jim loved to make the little ones laugh with his duck voice and his melodica skills.  We will miss him and all the joy he brought to our world.

Jim was a wonderful person and we will always remember his big smile and big personality and special duck voice!! We look forward to seeing him again in the next life!

Deb, I never met Jim  and I went decades without seeing you since all those Sundays we spent with Aunt Mary, Uncle Jim and all my  wonderful cousins. I can't believe all the times Linda and I drove through El Paso in our big rig and never linked up with you and Jim. I didn't know you were El Paso or i would have found you. I sure wish we could have met Jim. I'm sure we would have loved him. Just know that we are forever lifting you up in our prayers and love you very much.

One of my favorite memories is when you and Jim stayed  and I had a new family member named Caesar and Jim and Caesar had a great time playing and chasing each other around, Caesar was in 7th heaven and you and I laughed until  we cried.  I wish I had been able to see and spend time with Jim again many times.  Jim's passing is a very great loss for you and so many others.  I Love you and am here anytime you need me.

I'll never forget the first time we met, when I had seen Deb's art at Hueco Tanks and came looking for her... she was in Santa Fe, but we spent hours talking about aviation, everything under the sun but mostly about Deb.  I remember you saying, "I think you are going to be great friends someday.  You're alot alike."  
Since then, each time I visited your and Deb's wonderful casita in the desert, you were always there to greet me with a big smile and a "come on in!!"  Godspeed Jim!

My Darling Jimmy, My Big Guy, my fellow adventurer, builder, and co-creator, 
It's been three weeks now since you left on your Great Adventure into the unknown. The torrential rains that fell that first week, as though the skies were crying for me, tore the ceiling down in your room but the next morning, the day of your service, I arose early to find a partial rainbow where I have never seen one  in the south west skies.  Last night dragonflies swarmed me as I stood in the splashy light of sunset, dancing and divebombing until the rising moon washed away all the orange and gold from our house and trees and the mountains. I wanted to run inside and tell you to come see, I had never seen a show like that before, I knew it would thrill you as it did me. Today a baby pyrrhuloxia played in the bird bath. He was gangly and bug-eyed and drab until he lifted his wings to reveal a shock of scarlet, like his cousin the cardinal. All these years we waited for the pyrrhuloxia to nest on our property and now that you are not here to see them, they finally did. The road runner, who has been MIA since the monsoons struck, came calling, peering in the glass door, searching for you and, finding your chair empty, trotted back into the greening desert. Our cats miss you, Angel is especially distraught, but like the pyrrhuloxia and road runner, they share assurance in the deepness of nature that you are only missing and not gone from our hearts. Soon I will return you to the sea where I found you, 34 years ago, when we began our adventures at sea and on earth, from the sparkling shores of Catalina to a glittering early frost in the Ozarks, from the searing red canyons of Utah to a muted early snow in the Olympic mountains, we hunkered together, first in your prized sailboat and then in our beloved camper, so many sunsets and moonrises together, rocks and wind and sand, seas and lakes and streams and springs, on foot and on your Beamer, through mountains and forests and fields and desert scrub, we embraced the elements and they embraced us badk. Soon I will say my last farewell, bidding you equal fulfillment in your next adventure in that timeless realm beyond Nature. May all the love you shared on earth buoy you up as the sea once buoyed you here, may it carry you to new shores of existence, the measured cadences from each heart that loves you imbuing your new world like cascading notes in an exquisite symphony. From the security and comfort of the home you built for me, I will always love you and I will miss you forever.

I only knew Jim fleetingly, but we occasionally kibitzed at length; and I knew him to be a man of good humor, sensitivity and grace.  I can fondly remember him grinning while dancing with you at Len's place in Tijeras.  He was a really good dancer!
