Jim Cool, 80, passed away Sunday from stroke sustained Friday due to cranial hematoma. He was surrounded by his wife and cherished friends at Providence East Hospital in El Paso, Texas. Jim came to El Paso in 2003 from Albuquerque after retirement from a diverse career in aerospace, defense, and environmental contract work at the managerial level. A nature lover, Jim thrived on chalenging the elements in air and on sea, building and piloting planes as a young man and frequently competing in sailing races from Los Angeles to Mexico. Locally he volunteered several years at Hueco Tanks State Park and was a faithful member of the El Paso chapter of Al-Anon since 2004. He is survived by wife, Deborah Cool Flowers; sons, Michael and Matthew Cool; granddaughters Chelsea, Amelia, Charlotte and Cory Cool and grandson Alex Cool; sister Caroline Anderson; a niece, several nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, and many cousins. A private memorial service will be held at the Cool residence on Saturday, July 29. An open memorial service will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Irvine, California on Saturday, August 19 at 2:00 p.m. His ashes will be scattered at sea on Sunday, August 20 with immediate family attending.
