Jan entered this world on October 19, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri, the fourth child of Vincent Paul (VP) and Elsie Wieck. Her siblings included Mary Eileen, Richard Vincent, Reverend Paul Anthony, Michael Joseph, David Theodore, Robert Charles, and Rosalie Catherine in a very loving family. Following high school she graduated from St John’s Mercy Hospital School of X-Ray Technology.
Jan and her husband Gene relocated to El Paso in 1972 to obtain a McDonald’s franchise, and opened their first restaurant at 5440 Dyer Street. Jan had a generous spirit and loved entertaining; the Burgess family home was a center of activity and social events including swim parties, dinner parties, and many fun-loving gatherings. She embraced everything about west Texas, including the culture, food, and climate, becoming a very enthusiastic Texan.
Jan was a loving mother to her sons Daniel Vincent, Steven Eugene, and David Gregory as well as her daughter Karen Kathleen, to whom she devoted countless hours on the arduous and rewarding task of caring for her special needs.
Jan was committed to her Catholic faith and was a dedicated parishioner and an officer of the St. Patrick Cathedral Altar Society. She was also involved with projects at St. Patrick School and spent many years working with the PTA at El Paso High School.
In addition to her children, Jan is survived by her granddaughter Sierra and grandson Jonathan.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Cathedral on Monday, March 24, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, Jan requested donations to SPJ, which helps provide job skills and housing opportunities in the colonias of Juarez, Mexico. PO Box 222038, El Paso TX 79913, www.spjinc.org
