Janice Rutherford

Janice L. Rutherford, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday, April 28, 2017 at age 94. Shortly after her birth on April 1, 1923 in McHenry, North Dakota, Janice and her family moved west to Salinas, California where she spent the remainder of her childhood years. After high school, she began working at the local post office where she eventually met the love of her life, Samuel Rutherford. The two married before he was stationed overseas while serving in the U.S. Army. Four years later, they welcomed their first daughter, Pamela, and two years after that their family was complete with the arrival of Nancy. They lived a true military life traveling and living all over the world before they eventually made their home in El Paso in 1961.

Janice was a devoted mother and wife while her girls were young but spent time volunteering with the Democratic Women’s Club before she became a secretary in the Ysleta Independent School District where she retired from Riverside High School in 1987. After retirement, she continued her volunteer work and devotion to her husband and family. Janice was an incredibly kind and compassionate lady. She never spoke a harsh word to or about anyone. Those who knew her are better by having been in her presence.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Rutherford, her daughter, Pam Livingston, her parents Jack and Mary Youngbar, her sister, Alice Cheney and her brother, Robert Youngbar.

She leaves behind her youngest daughter, Nancy Rutherford of El Paso, her son-in-law, Randy Livingston of Tucumcari, New Mexico, her grandchildren: Keri Choat of El Paso, Kyle Neese of Amarillo, Texas, Kim Klutts and husband Brandt of Boerne, Texas and Ryan Livingston and wife Jessica of Spearman, Texas and her great grandchildren: Brooks, Molly and Weston Klutts of Boerne, Brady Neese of Amarillo and Randi Choat of El Paso.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery at 1:30 with interment to follow.
