Joan M. Schiell, 91, passed suddenly and peacefully on September 24, 2022 to be with her Lord and Savior. She was born in Sebewaing, MI in1931 to Emil and Martha Nast. Joan married Donald Schiell in 1955; they had been married 20 years when he preceded her death in 1976. Together, they have 3 surviving children, Joni, Janine (Patty), and David (Cindy) all of the DFW area.
She was preceded in death by her mother (1980), father (1985), brothers Herman (1986), Roland (2020), and niece Peggy (2022).
Joan was a loving Christian wife, mother, sister, aunt, and beautiful friend to all who met her in life and through church, travel, bowling, golf, card playing, and spending time with her children in the DFW area. Joan was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church (WELS) and remained an active member until her last Bible study on Wednesday evening. She will be dearly missed, especially by her children, their spouses, and several granddogs and grandcats.
Visitation will be on Thursday, September 29 from 6-8 pm at Restlawn/Funeraria Del Angel, 8817 Dyer St., El Paso, TX 79904. Funeral service will be Friday, September 30 at 1 p.m. officiated by Pastor Michael Cherney at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3800 Hondo Pass, El Paso, TX 79904. Internment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations in Joan’s name to Trinity Lutheran Church via the website at trinityelpaso.org using the “Donate” tab, or via U.S. Mail to the church address.
