

John passed away peacefully on February 27, 2023 into eternal life at his home in Clint, Texas. A faithful, loving, devoted husband, father and grandfather, John was born to Gerry and James (Dick) Orr. He grew up in the Lower Valley with an older and younger sister. He graduated from Fabens High School and then attended Kemper Military School in Boonville, Missouri. John also attended UTEP before joining the U.S. Marine Corp on February 3, 1969. John served in Vietnam as a scout sniper between September 1969 and September 1970 ending his military career as a Sergeant with an honorable discharge.
Besides working on the farm, John spent most of his life working with cattle as a cattle truck driver/feed lot manager. John enjoyed playing golf, attending the yearly USMC Scout Sniper Assn. reunion, attending the annual Cow Hauler reunions, and being with family and friends.
John was gifted at telling stories that brought laughter to his audiences. He was privileged to be selected to take the 2019 Honor Flight of Southern New Mexico and El Paso Texas to Washington DC in May of 2019.
John is survived by his wife of 46 years, Teresa, his son John James (JJ) and daughter-in-law Carolyn (Herring) of San Antonio, Texas, sisters Gerry (Arthur) Reinhardt of Kerrville, Texas, and Terry (Robert) Anson of Seminole, Oklahoma, and grandson, Russell Welch of Big Spring, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Charles David (Orr), and his grandchildren Emma May, John William, James Benjamin, and Ava Nicole (Orr).
A viewing will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 N. Carolina Dr., El Paso, Texas 79915. The Celebration of Life will begin at 6:00 p.m., at which time family and friends are welcome to share their favorite story/memory of John. Internment at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery will be held on Monday March 20, 2023 at 1:30pm at the East Shelter.
