Johnnie was a business associate of mine who also became a friend.  He was very conscientious and detailed in his work and cared for the welfare of horses and riders.  He was very religious and gave credit to God for all his success.  His passing came as a shock to me as I am sure to many others as well.   Condolences and prayers to his family.

We lost a great friend and family member and a great Southwesterner when Johnnie went to meet his Maker, as he most assuredly did.  While I knew him for years in our younger days, it wasn't until the last 8 years that I got to know him so much better as an incredibly caring and knowledgeable horseman.  His work at Lone Star Park was exemplary and gave me the confidence to take on the design and construction of a new turf course at the national racetrack of Peru.  Working with our beloved friend Jose Pedro Cristina, Johnnie's knowledge, hard work and persuasive personality enabled us to create the best and safest turf course in all of South America.  In our many weeks and months spent traveling and collaborating, I came to an ultimate respect for this man who worshipped God, Family and Horses.  While he will be missed here, may he rest in Peace.
