Jose L Ortiz

Jose Lorenzo Ortiz, born and raised in El Paso, Texas, to Ventura and Guadalupe Gomez Ortiz, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 25, 2026. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and cherished great-grandfather whose life was defined by family, hard work, and togetherness.

He married the love of his life, Debbie Ortiz, on April 24, 1976. Together, they built a strong and loving family. Jose was a proud father to his daughters, Elizabeth Ortiz and Ruby Ann Ortiz, and a devoted grandfather to Justine Ortiz, Gabriel Morales, Angel Morales, Ruben Minjares, and Allie Gomez. He was also a loving great-grandfather to Mila Morales and Noah Salem, with another great-grandchild on the way.

Jose was truly the center point of the family. His home was always the place to be, welcoming everyone with open arms. He loved hosting cookouts and bonfires, creating memories filled with laughter. He was known for his strong will, tireless work ethic, and unwavering love for his family. He also enjoyed listening to classic rock and playing the drums.

He is survived by his siblings, Magdalena Ortiz, Isabel Avila, Guadalupe Larios, Mary Paz Cano, Ventura Ortiz, Avelino Ortiz, and Ramon Ortiz, and leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. He was preceded in death by his siblings Trinidad Ortiz Lomas, Maria Elena Morales, and Teresita Alvarado, and by his nephew David Ortiz and niece Elisa Lomas.

Jose Lorenzo Ortiz leaves a lasting legacy of love, strength, and dedication to family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A visitation will be held at Hillcrest Funeral Home, located at 1060 North Carolina Drive, El Paso, TX 79915, on February 3, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Rosary Service will also take place at Hillcrest Funeral Home on the same day at 7:00 pm.

The Funeral Mass is scheduled for February 4, 2026, at 12:00 pm at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 131 S Zaragoza Rd, El Paso, TX 79907. Following the service, a Graveside Service will be held at Mt Carmel Cemetery, 401 S Zaragoza Rd, El Paso, TX 79907, at 1:30 pm.
