Jose Eddie Valdez, 82, of El Paso, Texas, passed away peacefully in his sleep on his birthday, April 27, 2026, in El Paso. Born on April 27, 1944, in El Paso, he was a devoted son, grandson, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who touched the lives of many.
Survivors who carry his memory forward include his loving wife Cecilia Valdez, his sons James Edward Valdez and Thomas Hawkeye Valdez, and his daughters-in-law Ceci Valdez and Karen Valdez. He cherished his grandchildren Edward Valdez, Gabi Valdez, and Diego Dominguez, whose smiles and stories brightened his days. He is also survived by his siblings, Bertha Saucedo and Manny Valdez.
Eddie’s life was steeped in faith, community, family, and a deep love for the world of media. He built an extensive and influential career across major outlets including NBC, CBS, Paragon Cable, KFOX Radio, and IMG Sports, spanning nearly four decades. He was a pillar of the local and broader media landscape and a tireless supporter of UTEP athletics, where he served for more than 20 years as a leader of the Media Host Committee for football and basketball.
Eddie’s heart found joy in many things: playing golf several times a week with friends, afternoons spent reading the news and tending his beloved roses in the garden. In his youth, he enjoyed basketball and football, and his love of food and his legendary sweet tooth were well known. He was a music enthusiast, with Neil Diamond, Frank Sinatra, and George Strait among his favorites. Above all, he treasured time with his grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and happiness.
A gifted storyteller, Eddie could captivate a room and make everyone feel seen. He carried a generous, kind spirit and a warmth that drew people to him, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be Monday, April 4, 2026 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a vigil service at 7:00 pm at Crestview Funeral Home, 1462 North Zaragoza Rd., El Paso, Texas 79936. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at 10:30 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1050 N. Clark Drive, El Paso, Texas 79905. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Of The Valley, 4900 McNutt Rd, Santa Teresa, NM 88008.
