Joseph Fulton Johnson Sr. peacefully transitioned from this life on August 4, 2018. Joseph was born April 13,1926 to Charlie and Nettie May Johnson in Emerson, Arkansas. Four children were born to that union; Charlie Jr., Dorothy, Laurie Lee and Joseph. His beloved Vera, his parents and three siblings preceded him in death.
Joseph was an inquisitive and quiet child. He was an excellent student who excelled in mathematics. His love of math and science would prepare him for his top secret work in building sophisticated guidance systems for the then new Nike Hercules Missile Program.
Along the way Joseph met and married Vera Evans. They were married December 18, 1948. From their union of 38 years, they were blessed with five children; Phyllis, Joseph Jr., Janet, Belinda and Vegenia. He leaves behind 4 generations of family; a host of nieces and nephews,16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Vera was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother until her death in January 1986. He married Joyce in 1987, she became his faithful wife and companion for 31 years. They were inseparable until his death.
Joseph was drafted into the Army 1944 where he served in World War II, The Korean War, and one tour of duty in Vietnam. He earned three Bronze Stars. This history was and is a testament to his life of service.
Joseph served where needed; whether it was in service to his beloved McCombs Baptist Church family, family and friends. He always made himself available to others.
Joseph believed in the power of prayer. He prayed for people and he is smiling today knowing that family and friends here today are praying for him and each other.
