Josephine Sara (Bencomo) Santos, age 93, passed away peacefully in her home on July 24, 2023 in El Paso, TX, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Josephine was born on March 19, 1930 in El Paso to Jesus Jose and Carolina Bencomo, and was the third of four children.
Josephine graduated from El Paso High School in 1948. She married Jose Guillermo Santos in 1950 and selflessly devoted herself to raising a family of seven children. She also played an important part in the founding of El Rancho Mart and the Food City Supermarkets with her husband Joe. Josephine was devoted to her Catholic faith. Supporting the religious communities of monasteries and seminaries in El Paso and Mexico was very important to her and her husband.
Josephine is preceded in death by her parents Jesus Jose and Carolina Bencomo, her husband Joe, her son Robert, her brother Jose and sister Maria. She is survived by her sister Carolina Soule, son Joseph Stanley (Kathy), daughters Patricia Roy (Jim), Catherine Elliott (Richard), Sandra Loweree (Carlos), Theresa Santos, and Rebecca Deike (Kevin), grandchildren James, Scott (Ellie), Jennifer (Farzad), Joseph (Brittany), Carlos (Lily), Joseph, Matthew (Jacqui), Christopher (Jessica), Melissa, Lauren, Rachel, Alexander, Robert (Courtney), Nicholas, Theresa, and Isabel (Jarrod), and ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Friday, July 28, 2023 from 5:00 to 8:30 pm at the Monastery of Perpetual Adoration, 451 Mockingbird Lane, with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:30 pm. The Requiem Mass will be offered on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 9:30 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 118 N. Campbell St. Burial will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hillcrest Funeral Home-East. The Santos family would like to acknowledge with heartfelt gratitude the team of caregivers that helped care for her during her years of declining health. They include Yolanda, Maribel, Griselda, Nohemi, Lucy, Laura, Tere, Letty, Luz, and Adela. The family would also like to extend their deepest gratitude to Msgr. Victor Kayrouz who visited her weekly to bring her Holy Communion and sing and pray with her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Monastery of Perpetual Adoration.
