August 25, 1929 – November 14, 2025
Proverbs 31:25 “Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come.”
Jovita Guzman Alvarado, our mother, was born to Elias Guzman Torres and Maria de Jesus Guzman Gutierrez on August 25, 1929. Her mother died when Jovita was only 5 years old. Thus began her journey of navigating life’s peaks and valleys, clinging to her innermost fibers of strength.
She married Agustin Alvarado on December 22, 1962, and together they built a life filled with love, adventure, understanding, patience, endurance, and laughter. They were blest with six children - Norma, Laura, Agustin, Lupe, Gustavo, and Claudia. Her continuous love, wisdom, and spiritual guidance for her children blossomed into 8 grandchildren – Ashley, Julian, Marissa, Leah, Kathryn, Marah, Auggie, and Xiomara, and 10 great-grandchildren - Claudia, Naudia, Aiden, JJ, Sophia, Sebastian, Soleia, Alejandro, Everett, and Sierra.
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend was called home to be with our heavenly Father on Friday, November 14, 2025. To have known our precious mother is to have known a faithful, righteous, tender, loving, joyful, and beautiful soul. She was a woman whose life was a testament to love, faith, and quiet strength. Our mom was an amazing example of kindness in its purest form. She lived each day grounded in her Catholic faith—not as a banner she waved, but as a gentle light she carried with her, illuminating the people and places around her, especially her family.
She loved deeply and without hesitation. Her arms were always open, her door always unlocked, her table always set for one more. Whether she was teaching us our multiplication tables or putting up with our giggles and squirms during her rosary lessons, comforting a friend, praying over someone in need, or simply offering a smile that seemed to warm the room, she gave of herself fully and freely. Her love wasn’t loud—it was steady and unwavering; the kind that made people feel and know that it was fully unconditional.
Her faith was the well from which she drew her strength. She believed in God’s promises with a certainty that carried her through every season of life. You could hear it in the way she prayed—softly and sincerely—and you could see it in the choices she made every day. She found beauty in nature, strength in prayer, overwhelming joy in her children, and purpose in serving others. Her life was her ministry.
She taught us what it means to be strong, to be patient, to forgive, and to keep going even when the world feels heavy. She didn’t measure her days by achievements or accolades, but by the people she helped, the burdens she lifted, and the hearts she touched. And there were many.
Though our hearts will forever ache with her absence, we also give thanks because God blest us with her presence, her laughter, her guidance, and her nurturing spirit. We thank God for her life, for the precious memories we hold close, and especially for the legacy of faith she leaves behind.
May we honor her by living as she lived—with great strength and dignity, by loving generously, serving humbly, and walking in faith every step of the way.
You will remain forever in our hearts, Madrecita Preciosa.
