

STEINBERGER, Katherine Lewis passed away on January 9, 2012, at the age of 79. Her parents, Bob and Bula Lewis, predeceased her. Katherine was born in Post, Texas and grew up in Littlefield and Midland, Texas. She graduated from Midland High School, attended Texas Tech University, and graduated with a degree in business from the University of Texas at Austin. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Katherine married John Clinton Steinberger in 1953. He survives her along with their four children and spouses: Katherine Ann Norvell; Clark Steinberger and wife Jemme; Shelley Swinney and husband Bill; and Scott Steinberger; and their five grandchildren: Kimberly Norvell, John Swinney, Sarah Mitchell, Callie Swinney, and James Swinney. The family moved to El Paso in 1961 when husband John came to practice law here. Katherine immediately became active in the Women’s Auxiliary to the El Paso Bar Association and the Hospitality Club, where she served as philanthropy chair. Katherine was an active member of University Presbyterian Church, serving as Treasurer for more than 20 years and two terms as an Elder. Known for her sense of humor and ready wit, she was also accomplished in music and art. Katherine was passionately devoted to her family, including many cherished dogs. She played tennis and bridge in the early years and video and computer games in later years. Memorials may be sent to the Salvation Army, University Presbyterian Church at 244 N. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 13th, at 1:00 pm at University Presbyterian Church, followed by a reception. Interment will take place at Memory Gardens in Santa Teresa at 3:30 pm.
