

She was born in El Paso and at 10 years old, we moved to Los Angeles, California where she grew up in Wilmington, California, Laura spent most of her school years there before moving back to El Paso. She attended Marymount College in Rancho Palos Verdes and Jacksonville University in Florida, where she pursued her desire to work with children in healthcare.
Laura dedicated over eight years of service to the Texas Workforce Commission. Outside of work, she found joy in crafting, rhinestoning, and photography—a passion she developed at a young age. Music was also a great love in her life.
In 2023, Laura was diagnosed with brain cancer. She faced her illness with immense strength and grace, undergoing chemotherapy, radiation, and multiple surgeries. Despite her courageous fight, she passed away surrounded by loved ones.
Laura is survived by her parents, Ruben and Margaret Alvarez; her siblings, Stephen Alvarez and Amanda Alvarez; Amanda’s partner, Kyle Sanchez, and their daughter, Kalani Sanchez. She is also survived by her grandparents, Alfredo and Linda Alvarez, and Roberto Corral, along with many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Laura’s light, joyfulness, creativity, and compassion will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A visitation for Laura will be held Tuesday, April 29, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Martin Funeral Home East, 1460 George Dieter Drive, El Paso, TX 79936. A graveside service will occur Wednesday, April 30, 2025 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at External Service Location, 12400 Montana Ave, El Paso, TX 79938. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, April 30, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM at External Service Location, 12200 Vista Del Sol Dr, El Paso, TX 79936.
