I am so glad that Sylvia and I had the opportunity to interface briefly with Laverne on May 30, 2009, following the Roy Wilson Memorial Service at Grace United Methodist Church.  I remember her gracious personality while I was Director of Music at Grace UMC.  Maurice and Steve were in the youth choir back then.  Sylvia and I have such great memories of those woderful years.  Best wishes to you guys, Steve and Maurice, and your families.  Your mom was great!

I will miss Laverne SO much. I'm not sure where we would be today without her resolute leadership and support. I always looked forward to her phone calls even though they usually resulted in a longer list of to-do's. She always went out of her way to show people how much she cared and how much their help was appreciated. She influenced thousands of people to do more for others -- what a legacy!

She was my History teaacher at Camino Real Middle School and I remember her best for her kindness and patience... my deepest condolences to her family.

Laverne - getting to know you these past two years in the Womans Club Book Club will always hold a special memory for me. We talked, laughed and planned for the coming year with great expectations - you will be missed !  My heartfelt sympathy to your family and to the many friends who share their loss.

Laverne was "one of a kind" and certainly shared with family and the educational community.  I had the opportunity to serve on many school district committees with Laverne.  I appreciated her professional approach and her insight into the issues being discussed.  She always had a point of view which needed to be considered, explored and understood.

My sincere sympathy. Laverne's passing is a loss to your family and to El Paso.
She is also a loss to the Republican Women of Texas. I could always call on Laverne for help when I was with the El Paso Co. Republican Party and I recently had a call from her and know she continued to be an active Republican.

Steve, Nancy, Maurice, Ardie and families,  Your parents took us into their home on the very first day we met them and treated us like a part of the familly.  We have many, many wonderful memories of the holidays we shared with you all.  Laverne was a wonderful friend; we could spend hours in conversation; sharing all facets of life!  It seems like everyone kidded her about her long meal-time prayers, but there was a whole lot more than the food we were about to eat that she was thankful for.  When we were there at Christmas, she talked about her and Erin taking a trip in her new car.  I hope she got to take that trip!  We will miss her greatly! I taught with LaVerne at Cadwallader, in the Ysleta ISD for five years.  And
she was a new member in the Society of Military Widows, of which I have been a member for a long time.  We had lunch together, an SMW function, just last month!  We also were both greeters at the new Ft. Bliss Museum for a long time.  She was a good conversationalist and she did enjoy all the volunteer work she did!  Was so shocked and saddend by the news of her death.  La Verne did indeed lead a full and, for many, a very helpful life.

Dearest Laverne you will be sorely missed. 
You were a good friend to all. You taught me so much about Volunteering when I joined the Red Cross in 1990. Then even after I left the Red Cross we kept bumping into each other at League of Women Voters and the Republican Women events.  You were always, and I do mean always, cheerful, had this great lil twinkle in your eye and a big smile. I always left your presence a happier person, thank you.
I know, right now, you are wrapped in those big strong arms of Bob's or sitting on a stool in his heavenly woodshop watching him putter.  
Dear Lord Bless their family here on earth and know your Mom is happy now that she is back with Bob.

I remember Laverne as a VERY caring lady. Always asking about others and wishing others well.  She will be missed. God's comfort to her family at this time.
