Luis Israel Herrera

Our world was blessed with the birth of Luis Israel Herrera on February 19,1984. Luis passed away on February 22, 2024 in Alice Springs, NT, Australia. He is preceded in death by his Tio Eduardo Herrera. Luis is survived by his father Luis Herrera and Dora Herrera; by his sister Valeria Noemi Herrera (Luisito picked out her middle name); by his two brothers Luis Raul Herrera and Francisco Javier Herrera; and his 98 year old grandmother Sabina Herrera. Luis I.'s loving companion Arlene; stepson Matthew Munoz and his beloved dog Jasmine. Luis Israel (which means “Warrior of the Chosen People) was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Graduated from Franklin High School in El Paso, Texas, Luis attended New Mexico Military Institute, as had his father and where his little sister Valeria is enrolled; He received an Associate of Arts Degree. He graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with a Bachelor in Criminal Justice. He later joined the Army to fulfill the family tradition. After the Army, Luis worked as a contractor overseas in Australia for the last twelve years of his life. Luis rose through the ranks to have a successful career, which he enjoyed. He was held in high esteem by his coworkers. Luis enjoyed cooking, smoking meats, hiking, World War II gunnery and playing flight simulator video games in his spare time. Luis was a passionate Star Wars fan, and we consider him our very own Han Solo.

Luis is missed dearly and holds a very special place in our hearts. He leaves a legacy in our family and in the memories of those who knew him.

A Burial Service for Luis will be held at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave, El Paso, TX 79906, on Monday, April 15, 2024, at 10:30am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Humane Society of El Paso as Luis was an avid dog lover.
