Maria “Sukie” Meza, 75, went home to the Lord on Wednesday, July 23rd. Sukie was born in Mexico on June 13, 1950. She was a retired teacher and paralegal. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her father, Pedro Lerma, and mother, Jovita Nicasio. She is survived by her husband, Jose Guadalupe Meza; sons David Meza and Jose Jaime Meza (daughter-in-law Laura Meza); daughters Vanessa Meza and Valerie Mendoza (son-in-law Victor Mendoza); grandsons Maximilian and Joel Meza; and granddaughters Mallory and Jazmine Mendoza.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 30th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Hillcrest Funeral Home East, with the Rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. Funeral services will take place on Thursday at 12:00 PM at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Ft. Bliss Cemetery.
Sukie was an exceptional woman who led a purposeful, selfless life caring for others first and lending a helping hand without hesitation. Her smile could light up a room and her warm, caring, compassionate presence could always be felt. Her greatest accomplishment was her family whom she was extremely proud of and through whom her strength, spirit and kind heart will live on. She will be missed by all who knew her and the lives she impacted throughout her journey.
